Prog Review 300 - The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway - The Ultimate Record - Robert Ellis
Italian review in Dusk Magazine

The famous English rock photographer Robert Ellis spent some time with Genesis in September 1974 at the Island studios, where they were mixing THE LAMB LIES DOWN ON BROADWAY, ignoring that that album (one of the most controversial and seminal records of the entire history of rock) would have been the swan song with the then singer Peter Gabriel. Ellis then followed the band in part of the 100 and more dates Lamb tour and when he discovered that the band had no plan to film the concerts, he decided to document the show with his camera, taking photographs repeatedly, song by song but backstage as well. So there you have this book, which is quite expensive but really luxurious: 180 pages of large format and high print quality, with hundreds of great pictures either in black and white and colour. The best way to celebrate that legendary record in his fortieth anniversary, as unfortunately Genesis sadly snubbed the recurrence. Mario Giammetti - Italian DUSK magazine. DUSK HERE

Genesis The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway - The Ultimate Record
by Robert Ellis
In 1974 Genesis released their double concept album, The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway and embarked on a landmark, six month long tour in November of that year. This ambitious stage show was the first to use multimedia to illustrate the story line. It was also the last time the band would tour with Peter Gabriel. Incredibly the show was never fully recorded, either on audio or film.

Robert Ellis followed the band from the recording studio in September 1974 and through the tour in UK and Europe, taking hundreds of shots of the band at work with the special intention of documenting it for posterity. Finally, these images have been put together by Robert personally to commemorate this significant time in the history of Genesis and Peter Gabriel.

Said Robert, "I want this book to be seen as a companion to the album, not a critique of the songs, the band, or the show - more an extended super deluxe packaging for a live album that never was."

Robert, just wanted to drop you a note. I finally had a chance last night to properly go through your book and take my time studying the pictures. Many of the photos are fantastic and to me are real works of photographic art. Words like atmospheric, stylized and iconic come to mind. I don't know how I passed up on this book when it first came out. Quite honestly, the shipping cost deterred me at that time. But now, I feel it's worth more than I paid and am so happy I own it. Congratulations on your outstanding book!
